Anou kittens are bred from quality lines, with an emphasis on true type, health and temperament. Anou's focus is quality, not quantity.
The Russian White possesses all the regal characteristics of the Russian Blue, yet has a plush snow-white double coat with deep emerald green eyes.
The Russian Blue has a shorthaired soft, dense double coat that is an even steel blue colour with sliver tipping to give an overall lustrous sheen.
The Russian Black is a majestic cat with a midnight black lustrous double coat, set with typically Russian deep emerald green eyes.
Welcome to Anou Russian Cats. Anou cattery is located in the regional township of Armidale, in the New England High Country of NSW and are registered breeders through NSW CFA (64650). Anou has been breeding Russian kittens for pet homes and for breeding/showing since 1993. Their aim is to breed healthy, happy kittens with careful attention to the breed standard and the underlying genetics of the breed. Anou is currently working with overseas breeders in Poland, Russia and the Netherlands to import new bloodlines into their cattery, thus improving the genetic diversity and robustness of the breed.
Anou Russian Cats proudly invites any prospective clients to visit their cattery, meet their adult males & females, visit kittens and see how they operate. They also strive to have a reputable veterinarian visit their cattery each year to provide a comprehensive premises report. See the link above!
What should you look for when purchasing a Russian kitten? Look at The breed Standard below if you wish to know the formal definition of the Russian breed of cat, which breeders are obliged to follow in their breeding program and will be judged upon when formally showing their cats. In short, the eyes should be green & almond-shaped, not yellow. The ears should be set vertically on the head, not off to the side. The nose should be one flat plane, with pronounced whisker pads and chin. The coat, the most important feature, should be short, plush and soft, with a silvery tipping & solid colour throughout. Tabby ghost markings will be visible through the coat, particularly towards the tips of the tail. It is unlikely that the "ghost markings" can ever be entirely bred out of the Russian, given that they originated from a tabby cat. These features take some time to develop in the Russian cat, who will not reach full maturity until 18 - 24 months of age, although a good breeder should have a keen eye to detect these features in young kittens.
Many of Anou's clients have recently lost a former loving cat companion after many years, and are in the grieving process. Most think that getting a cat too soon somehow dishonours that adored companion. The opposite is actually true; your decision to invest your time in another Russian only serves to show respect for the love-one lost, and also greatly hastens the grieving process. For those who have known the unconditional life-long love of a pet companion know the pain that is caused by their suffering and loss. They also understand the undeniable theraputic benefits of love & adoration, the laughter and joy at sharing their life and catering to their every need. With Anou Russian Cats, that relationship begins from the moment that you join the "Anou Family" and begin meeting the parents of your future Russian companion. Sharon & Paul will walk with you through the entire process, ensuring that all of your needs are met in the kitten that they select for you.
